How Mobility Chairs Help With Overall Health

How Mobility Chairs Help With Overall Health

Mobility chairs, or recline chairs as they’re also referred to, can make for a fantastic addition to every home.

As well as being extremely comfortable and stylish, mobility chairs are also excellent at helping with the overall health of the user.

Most of these chairs operate electronically, and both the seat itself and the footrests can be raised to ensure the comfort of the user.

But a variety of health conditions and issues can also be helped with the use of a mobility chair. In this article, the team here at London Mobility will take an in-depth look at what issues these chairs can assist with.

Improve sleep

While we wouldn’t recommend a mobility chair as an alternative to a bed, it can help people who struggle with sleep issues. By elevating the head and positioning the user in a more upright position, snoring, asthma and sleep apnoea can be eased. This is because it makes it easier for air to pass through the lungs and improves the user’s quality of sleep.

Remember, if you do suffer from sleep apnoea, it can be a dangerous condition if not managed correctly and you should always seek professional medical advice.

Help with arthritis

Many people who suffer from arthritis can also benefit from using mobility chairs and similar assisted products. In the UK, around ten million people suffer from some variation of the condition, with it often developing in people’s 40s and increasing in severity with age.

There are two types of arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is when the smooth cartilage in someone’s joints becomes rough. Tendons and ligaments then need to work harder, which can result in swelling, pain and immobility.

In comparison, rheumatoid arthritis is when the body’s immune system attacks the joints leading to similar effects and immobility.

Using a mobility or recliner chair can help alleviate some of the symptoms of these conditions by relieving pressure on the affected joints by lowering the user into a seated position.

Less back pain

To some degree, everyone suffers from a bit of back pain from time to time. However, for some people, it can turn into a chronic issue.

Back pain can be caused by multiple factors, but whatever the reason, a mobility chair can help make life easier. The rise and recline function of these chairs means that the user does not have to strain their back getting in and out of the chair. Plus, these products typically come with greater lumbar support than conventional chairs.

Improve blood circulation

Mobility chairs can also improve blood circulation, which can have an impact on a whole host of health conditions. By raising the user’s legs and body, it encourages better blood circulation that can help those who suffer from the likes of Raynaud’s disease.

Furthermore, encouraging healthier blood circulation also lowers the risk of heart disease.
